The Fellowship of Isis was founded at Clonegal Castle on the vernal equinox, 1976 by the Hon. Olivia Robertson, her brother, Sir Lawrence Durdin-Robertson, Baron of Strathloch and his wife Pamela. The Manifesto of the Fellowship sets out the essential aims.

The Fellowship is dedicated to spreading the Religion of all the Goddesses throughout this planet. the Gods are also venerated. The Goddess is seen as a Deity, the Divine Mother of all beings, as well as the embodiment of Truth and Beauty. The Fellowship of Isis teaches reverence for all forms of life, animal, plant and mineral. It rejects the principle of sacrifice in any form, whether actual or symbolic.

The membership includes Christians, both Catholic and Protestant, Hindus, Buddhists, Shintoists, Spiritualists, as well as followers of many esoteric traditions such as Wicca, Druidry, Rosicrucianism, Sufism and others. Membership includes practicioners of Native spiritualities also.

This quick development of the Fellowship may be seen as part of the Renaissance of the Goddess taking place all over the world. The unbalanced use of technology which puts at risk the very existence of life on earth, has in part, led to this change of heart.

In May 1982 the number of members reached 2,924 in 44 countries with 78 centers. By April 1992, membership had reached 11,241 in 73 countries. Now, as of June 1999, we are over 15,000 members strong, in more than 93 countries all over the world. In 650 Iseums and 102 Lyceums the Goddess is honoured and celebrated in Her many aspects.
